Jason W. Goddard, 55, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. His sudden death has brought deep sorrow to his family, friends, and the community he served for decades.
Born on February 4, 1971, to the late Ronald Moore Goddard and Sandra Rogers Goddard, Jason was a devoted husband, father, brother, and lifelong public servant.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College before beginning his long career in law enforcement.
Jason served the Owensboro Police Department for 21 years, starting in 2002. During his tenure, he rose through the ranks and took on a variety of roles, including Patrol Officer, Police Training Officer, Juvenile Detective, Patrol Sergeant, and member of the Emergency Response Team.
His commitment to protecting and serving his community earned him deep respect from colleagues, and he was known for his warm personality, steady presence, and willingness to help others.
After retiring from the Owensboro Police Department, Jason continued his public service with the Daviess County Public Schools Police Department beginning in 2023.
There, he served as a School Resource Officer, caring for the safety and well‑being of students and staff across the west side of the county. He was praised for his ability to connect with children of all ages and be a reassuring presence in schools.
Outside of law enforcement, Jason’s passion for youth and sports was evident in his years as an assistant coach for the Daviess County High School boys soccer team, from 2016 to 2024, and as a high school soccer referee for nearly two decades.
He also coached his own sons in the United Soccer Club, teaching not just the game but life lessons about character, teamwork, and perseverance.
Jason was admired by many for his genuine kindness, his quick smile, and his readiness to lend a helping hand. He believed that serving others went beyond the badge, actively participating in community programs like Operation Santa and Shop with a Cop.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Stacy Mills Goddard; their two sons, Jackson and Keaton Goddard; his sister, Julee Goddard; his brother, Jeff Goddard; his parents‑in‑law, Keith and Patty Mills; and extended family, including siblings‑in‑law and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Owensboro Christian Church, with burial to follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
