The Sage Blair lawsuit centers on a Virginia teenager whose story has drawn national attention.
Sage Blair was a 14‑year‑old student at Appomattox County High School in Virginia. According to her family’s lawsuit, the school allowed her to socially transition to a male identity at school, using the name “Draco”, without informing her guardian, Michele Blair.
The family claims this secrecy set off a chain of events that led Sage to run away from home in 2021. During that time, she was reportedly trafficked and subjected to abuse before eventually being recovered in another state.
Her mother, Michele Blair, has accused the school of deliberately concealing her daughter’s gender transition, arguing that this lack of transparency contributed to Sage’s vulnerability and eventual exploitation.
The lawsuit highlights issues of parental rights, school policies on gender identity, and the responsibilities of educators in safeguarding students.
According to a lawsuit filed by Sage's grandma (who had custody of her), the school 1- let Sage use the boys' bathroom and 2- let Sage use male pronouns and a different name. Pretty dishonest to use this case of social transitioning as justification to ban medical transitioning. https://t.co/CfW89bgy2Y

In recent developments, Sage Blair has reunited with her family and is now attending Liberty University. Her case has gained national political attention, with her story even being mentioned at the 2026 State of the Union address, where she was invited as a guest.
In simple terms, the lawsuit argues that the school’s actions endangered Sage by hiding her gender transition from her parents, leading to her running away and facing abuse.
Today, she is back with her family, but her case continues to spark debate about schools, parental rights, and child safety.
