Tim Quill, the longtime head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at Southern Connecticut State University, died suddenly on February 11, 2026, at the age of 58.
He began his swimming journey as a competitive swimmer before becoming a coach.
He attended Alfred University, where he graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in athletic coaching.
While at Alfred, he was an outstanding swimmer and served as captain of the swim team, earning All-American honors four times for his performances in collegiate competition.
After college, he moved into coaching and worked with the Cheshire YMCA and the Southern Connecticut (SoNoCo) Swim Club.
He spent 28 years as the head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at Southern Connecticut State University.
During his career, he led his teams to 34 Northeast-10 Conference championships, earning Coach of the Year honors many times for his success and leadership.
Quill coached 121 NCAA All-Americans and helped many swimmers reach national-level competition.
Additionally, he was known for mentoring athletes and building a strong, supportive team culture.
Outside of swimming, Tim was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Brenda, and their two twin children, Lilianna and Timothy V.
As of now, there is no public information available about Tim Quill’s funeral or celebration of life.
The family and the university have not yet finalized or shared the details. When plans are confirmed, they will be announced later.
