My sweet Amiya. My best friend. My soror. My Spelman sister. The reality of not hearing your laughter anymore is so painful. The fact that this is not just a horrible dream is truly unbearable. There are not enough words to describe how hard it is to know you left this Earth. But the tears shed are a testament to the love you gave. You are a light that can never be dimmed, even in death. Pure Gold. I am so blessed that we got to be sisters in this lifetime, sharing all of our dreams, our disappointments, our love for family, our faith in God, our love for Delta, and our desire to serve. I will keep your memory alive and share our stories with Chan, always. How do we live a life with you not in it? I don’t even want to imagine it.

Moreover, Crystal Y Davis, a graduate of Samford University, also shared her experience.

Yesterday, I experienced emotional lows and highs that took me from one exteme to the next. The day started honoring the life of our Soror Dr. Amiya Walton. And the day ended with a concert that would be just the medicine I didn’t know I needed. While I have performed the DST final act of sisterhood service several times, there was something drastically different about conducting this service for a beautiful, smart, in the prime of her life, 28 year old Soror. It was one of the most difficult moments I’ve experienced during my short presidency tenure. My stomach was in knots. I was anxious about every aspect being perfect! And when seeking answers or words of comfort….. nothing seemed to make sense.

Walton will always be remembered for her unforgettable contributions as an Emergency Medicine Resident Physician.

Rest in Heaven, Dr. Amiya Walton.
