Nancy Guthrie, the mother of an American broadcast journalist, Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1, 2026, and authorities seized a gray Range Rover during a late-night operation at Culver’s restaurant.
Kayla Noel Day was connected to a gray Range Rover, and Luke Daley appeared as the vehicle’s owner.
84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills near Tucson on February 1, and evidence at the scene quickly led the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to conclude she had been taken against her will.
A significant breakthrough came when the FBI released recovered footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera.
The chilling images show an armed individual wearing a mask and a backpack approaching her door in the early morning hours of February 1 and tampering with the device. This footage has been key to the investigation, leading to a surge in tips.
Physical evidence is also being closely examined. A black glove found about two miles from Nancy’s home is being analyzed, with the FBI stating that preliminary results show it “appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video.”
The case has been further complicated by multiple ransom notes sent to news outlets, demanding millions in cryptocurrency. Two deadlines for payment have passed, and communication with the purported kidnappers appears to have stalled.
Through it all, Savannah Guthrie and her family have remained vocal, issuing emotional pleas for their mother’s safe return.
Arrests of Kayla Noel Day and Luke Daley in the Nancy Guthrie Investigation
The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie in late January has led to a complex investigation, marked by several key developments in mid-February.
Kayla Noel Day and Luke Anthony Daley have been arrested based on public records and official reports.
Kayla Noel Day was reportedly arrested around 11:00 p.m on February 12, 2026.
Online jail records confirm she is being held at the Pima County Jail, though the specific charges against her have not been publicly disclosed.
The following day, a Pima County Sheriff’s SWAT team executed a raid at a residence in Tucson. Luke Anthony Daley, who is described as Kayla Day’s boyfriend, was detained during this operation.
So, Kayla Noel Day, has been in police custody since Feb. 12, when she and her boyfriend, Luke Daley, were previously involved in an arrest with a gun, fentanyl, etc. in a WalMart parking lot. (You will recall that Luke Daley was detained Friday night in the SWAT raid at his mother’s home, and his car was picked up at Culvers. Unsure whether he was with car or at home, but there were 2 other men involved as well who were detained.)

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the law enforcement activity was connected to the Guthrie investigation. Following the raid on the residence, one vehicle was towed from the property. Reports also indicate a second vehicle was later removed.
Separately, on the night of February 14, the FBI seized a gray Range Rover from a nearby Culver’s parking lot, which was investigated in connection with the case.
Following the arrests, unverified claims circulated on social media. Some users suggested a possible family connection between Kayla Noel Day and individuals with the Guthrie surname. However, there has been no official confirmation from authorities to establish any verified relationship.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, noting that it can hinder the investigation. He has also publicly stated that all members of Nancy Guthrie’s immediate family have been cooperative and are not considered suspects.
At this time, the nature of any alleged connection between Kayla Noel Day, Luke Daley, and the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remains unconfirmed by officials. The investigation is ongoing.
