John JC Cowan death
John “JC” Cowan was a player, coach, mentor, and volunteer whose passion for hockey.

John “JC” Cowan was a deeply respected and much-loved figure within the Sutherland hockey community.

While he was known as a committed player earlier in his life, JC’s greatest legacy came through his coaching, mentoring, and volunteer service.

In recognition of his years of dedication and impact, he was awarded Life Membership in 2015.

He was passionate about developing young players, most notably running the club’s Junior Academy in 2018.

Beyond coaching, JC was the kind of person who quietly did whatever the club needed.

He served in numerous committee roles, ran canteen operations, filmed 1st and 2nd grade men’s matches, and organised major school and community hockey events, including gala days and competitions.

JC passed away peacefully at home over the weekend, surrounded by his loving family.

His loss is felt profoundly by his family, friends, and the entire hockey community that he helped shape for so many years.

He will be remembered as someone who gave selflessly, cared deeply, and made everyone around him better both on and off the field.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, 23rd February, with a ceremony at 10:30 am at Mortdale–Oatley Baptist Church, followed by a gathering at 1:00 pm at Sutherland District Hockey Club.

It will be a time to honour a life well lived and to celebrate the remarkable legacy JC leaves behind.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to JC’s beloved family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Rest in Peace.
