Robert Duvall, the acclaimed Oscar-winning actor known for roles in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Tender Mercies, didn’t have any reported illness or health issues at the time of his passing.

He passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 95, peacefully at his home in Middleburg, Virginia, surrounded by family, as confirmed by his wife, Luciana Duvall, in a public statement.

Robert Duvall lived a really long life, making it to 95 before he passed away peacefully at home in Virginia back in February 2026.

It was his wife, Luciana, who shared the news and made it clear he went quietly, surrounded by family and love. That said, she didn’t mention any specific illness or medical reason in her statement.

Luciana disclosed the news writing:

Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything.
His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.

When people started asking about his health, especially after the news broke, no official cause was given, and nothing pointed to a particular disease or condition right at the end.

Likewise, previously, there were no reports of his health issues. He has stayed pretty active and even posted a short video of himself doing bicep curls with weights not long before turning 95.

Going further back, there really aren’t any confirmed serious illnesses tied to him in reliable accounts.

Back in 2016, a rumor claiming he might have had a stroke circulated online. Friends supposedly worried his love for steak and past smoking could have led to something like that.

Duvall himself went on Howard Stern’s show to call the whole rumor completely false and even said he could have sued over it, but chose not to.
