Garrick Keith Newell passed away on February 7, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 29 years old.
Garrick is survived by his wife of 2 years, Candice Newell, and their daughters Dallee Newell and Hadley Jones, and his brother, Drew Merchant.
Candice and Garrick tied the knot on May 14, 2023. He was a family man who loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in demise by his parents, Karen and Gary Newell; his mother-in-law, Angela Jackson; and his grandparents, Sherrill and Gary Newell, Sr.
He also leaves behind his father-in-law, Clint Jackson, and his wife, Tonja; his aunt and uncle, Ginger and Matt Nethery.
Garrick is also survived by his cousins who felt more like brothers, David Brunet and wife, Kortney and their three children with one on the way, Aaron Nethery and wife, Katelyn with two children and also, one on the way, and Robert Wilson; his cousin, Sara Wilson McClintock, who was his sister in every way and Sherri Boyd and husband, Dylan and their two children.
Several came forward to express their condolences. Kacey Newman wrote:
God knows if I could piece her world back together I would. Garrick was an amazing husband and an even better father. Yall keep my sweet friend, their girls and the family in your prayers
Born August 20, 1996, in Nacogdoches, Texas, Garrick grew up and spent his whole life in Sabine County, living in Rosevine, where he built his family and his home.
He went to Hemphill High School and later established himself as a general foreman supervisor at PMC. His job focused on refinery shutdowns, and he took it seriously every single day.
Garrick always put safety first for his crew and made sure everything got done right. Work mattered a lot to him, but nothing compared to the time he got to spend with his wife and daughters.
His family was everything to him; he loved being a husband and dad more than anything else, and he showed that love in all the everyday ways that count.
Friends and family can come to the visitation on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Starr Funeral Home on 510 Starr Street in Hemphill, Texas.
The funeral service will take place the next day, Friday, February 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Lonnie Crawford is leading it.
After the service, they will bury him at Wise Cemetery in Milam, Texas. Pallbearers for the day include Jordan Hanzel, Anthony Russell, Caleb Havard, Christopher Moore, Jason Forbis, Josh Jackson, Hunter Meeks, Tyler Meeks, Nick Crocker, and Devan Newman. Honorary pallbearers are Bo Hanzel and Clint Havard.
Although Garrick’s life was short, he filled it with love for his people. During this difficult time, we pray for the strength of his wife, kids, friends, and extended family.
