Emily Michelle Loubiere, daughter of Max Loubiere, tour director for Billy Joel, and his wife, Vicky, passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 33.
Born on October 21, 1992, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Emily grew up in a family that nurtured curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to helping others. She is survived by her twin sister, Savannah, and her older sister, Molly.
From a young age, Emily displayed a remarkable sense of compassion and a belief in the potential of every individual.
These qualities shaped both her personal and professional life, inspiring those around her to see the world through a lens of understanding and care.
Her dedication to social justice and restorative practices became the hallmark of her work and her aspirations.
Emily earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of New Orleans in 2024, and she went on to complete her Master of Social Work at Tulane University in 2025.
Her focus was on restorative justice and trauma-informed care, fields in which she hoped to make a meaningful impact.
During her time at Tulane, Emily interned with the Orleans Public Defenders’ Office, where she gained firsthand experience in supporting individuals navigating the legal system.
She also devoted many years to volunteering with Trystereo, New Orleans’ harm reduction network, where she worked to provide compassionate support to those facing challenging circumstances.
Emily believed that freedom was a process rather than a moment in time. She understood that reentering society after incarceration requires patience, trust, and consistent support.
Her work was guided by this philosophy, aiming to ensure that individuals returning home from incarceration would not face the process alone.
In honor of her life and the work she was preparing to undertake, her parents, in partnership with Innocence & Justice Louisiana, established the Emily Loubiere Social Work Fellowship.
This fellowship will fund a recent graduate with an LMSW or LCSW to provide long-term, client-centered support to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals and their families.
Through this initiative, Emily’s values and commitment to restorative justice will continue to touch the lives of countless people, extending her legacy beyond her years.
The fellowship emphasizes individualized, trauma-informed care and advocacy, guiding clients before and after release and offering critical support as they navigate the complexities of reintegration.
Emily’s family hopes that this work will honor her vision and continue the compassionate service she exemplified throughout her life.
