Calgary BMX Community Mourns the Unexpected Jonas Tremel Death as the Longtime President and Dedicated Volunteer

The Jonas Tremel death has shocked the Calgary BMX community and beyond, as friends, colleagues, and riders mourn the sudden and unexpected passing of a beloved leader and passionate advocate for the sport.

Jonas Tremel, the long-time President of Calgary BMX, was announced deceased in a heartfelt statement from the Calgary BMX Association.

The organization wrote,

“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share the passing of Calgary BMX’s President Jonas Tremel, Jonas dedicated his time, energy, and heart to our organization. He believed in this sport, in our riders, and in the power of community. His encouragement, generosity, and steady presence helped shape countless memories on and off the track.”

Jonas didn’t just support BMX, he lived it. For over 25 years, he served as a dedicated volunteer and pillar in both the Calgary and Alberta BMX Racing organizations.

His leadership was marked by exceptional technical expertise, unwavering professionalism, and a calm, steady demeanor that made him a highly respected figure among teams and riders alike.

Beyond his skills, Jonas was remembered for his integrity, genuine support for those around him, and his ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke, encouraging a positive and enjoyable environment wherever he went.

A devoted family man, Jonas was a supporter of his children’s involvement in BMX. His daughter Hailey and son Dylan were close to his heart.

Dylan, in particular, coaches BMX in Calgary and is preparing for the 2028 Olympics, carrying forward the family legacy in the sport.

Outside of BMX, Jonas found joy in the outdoors as an avid fly fisherman, hunter, and skeet shooter, embracing nature with the same passion he brought to the track.

His contributions extended into his professional life as well, where he was known for bringing the same dedication and positivity to his career at Millenia Engineering.

Colleagues and the broader community have highlighted how his presence will be deeply missed.

Upon the huge loss, Millenia Engineering has stepped up to support the Tremel family by organizing a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $20,000.

The funds will help cover immediate expenses and provide assistance for Hailey’s schooling, as well as support for Dylan as he continues his journey toward the Olympics.

The family has asked that condolences be sent via email to [email protected], allowing them the space and time needed to grieve privately.

Jonas Tremel’s impact on the BMX world will endure every time riders line up at the gate, families gather trackside, and the community unites in shared passion.

He will forever remain a cherished part of the BMX family, greatly missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.
