Garrett Bertaut, a former student-athlete from Louisiana State University, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 29 on February 8, 2026.
He was involved in softball, soccer, volleyball, and football.
Garrett Bertaut built a successful and fulfilling life.
He attended St. Catherine of Siena and Brother Martin High School before becoming a student-athlete at Louisiana State University. He was a versatile athlete and participated in softball, soccer, volleyball, and football.
Later, he majored in construction management.
His passion for construction began at a young age and evolved into a successful landscaping company, where he combined his managerial expertise with hands-on skills.
Moreover, his work was his passion, and he thrived being outdoors under the sun. He used his knowledge to help clients and ensure every project made a positive, lasting impact.
Gone way too soon… rest easy, bud.

Garrett Bertaut’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss
Garrett Russell Bertaut was a beloved son, devoted brother, cherished grandson, and loyal friend who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 29.
His radiant spirit touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark of kindness, humor, and generosity.
Garrett possessed a rare ability to make friends wherever he went, his warm presence and genuine smile putting everyone at ease.
He saved his two-year-old brother’s life at the age of seven by donating his bone marrow. His act of courage was the purest reflection of his character.
He was a hero in the truest sense, and his family will be eternally grateful for his incredible gift.
He was his parents’ pride and joy and the unwavering cornerstone for his siblings. He taught them the values of hard, honest work and deep respect for others.
Garrett is survived by his heartbroken parents, Al Bertaut, Jr. and Dayna Bertaut; his siblings, Cole, Connor, Emma, and Evan Bertaut; and his grandmother, M’Liss Bertaut.
He shared a close bond with his his aunts and uncles, Billy Bertaut (Yvette), Alison Larriviere (Jerry), Michael Bertaut, and David Boudreaux Sr. (Dona); and his adored cousins, Ashley Stickman (George), Henry Stickman, Grace Stickman, Kristen Bertaut, Jacob Larriviere, Jarod Larriviere, Jack Larriviere, David Boudreaux Jr., and Lisa Boudreaux.
Likewise, he leaves behind a vast community of extended family and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Garrett is now reunited in peace with his grandfather, Alvin Bertaut, Sr., and his grandparents, Louise and Dudley Boudreaux.
The world lost a great guy. Katherine and I are devastated and in disbelief. We will all miss him more than words can express. RIP, my friend. 🙏

The Bertaut family invited family and friends to celebrate Garrett’s remarkable life at his Homegoing Service on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA 70001.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, and interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made in Garrett’s memory to the American Childhood Cancer Organization (www.acco.org), honoring his lifelong spirit of giving and his own childhood act of profound bravery.
Garrett’s light, laughter, and loving heart will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
