Cain Velasquez is a name that rings bells in the world of mixed martial arts, as he is an American former professional wrestler and MMA fighter best known for his time in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

There, he competed in the heavyweight division and became a two-time UFC heavyweight champion. But beyond the ring, Velasquez is a devoted family man.

He and his wife, Michelle, have two children: a daughter born in 2009 and a son born in 2018. Their family life has been in the spotlight, especially after some challenging events in recent years.

Velasquez married Michelle on May 28, 2011. Their daughter arrived before the wedding, in 2009, bringing joy to their lives early on. Then, in 2018, they welcomed their son.

Velasquez has shared glimpses of his family on social media. For example, he once talked about a quiet period where he lived in an RV on a mountain with his son.

They hiked barefoot through redwoods and spent time in nature. This helped him heal from grief and find peace in solitude. He has also mentioned traveling to Senegal to see ancient wrestling traditions, reflecting on his life as a father with pride and humility.

Being a father changed Velasquez. He has spoken about the unforgettable moment when he learned “It’s a boy” for his son. Fatherhood brought him humility and perspective. Even amid his busy career, family remained his priority.

But in February 2022, everything took a dark turn. Velasquez’s then 4-year-old son was allegedly molested by Harry Goularte at a daycare run by Goularte’s mother.

This accusation devastated the family. In response, Velasquez chased Goularte’s vehicle in a high-speed pursuit and fired shots. He missed Goularte but hit Goularte’s stepfather, injuring him.

The incident led to serious legal troubles. Velasquez was charged with attempted murder, assault, and weapons offenses. He pleaded no contest in 2024.

During his sentencing in March 2025, he told the judge he agreed with whatever sentence was fit. He called his actions reckless and dangerous, and said he was truly sorry.

The court sentenced him to five years in prison, but this included three years of time served while awaiting trial. He was also eligible for credits from rehabilitative programs.

Velasquez spent time on house arrest starting in November 2022 before his full sentencing. He reached a deal with prosecutors to avoid a possible 30 years to life in prison.

Meanwhile, Goularte faced felony charges for the alleged molestation and pleaded not guilty. His case is still pending, with a trial setting hearing set for April 15, 2026.

On February 15, 2026, Velasquez was granted early parole and released from custody. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed he had served his full sentence as defined by law, thanks to time served and program participation. He finally returned to his family.

An emotional video captured the moment he reunited with his children. A van dropped him off, and a mariachi band played in the background. His young son and daughter rushed toward him, jumping into his arms. It was a heartwarming scene that showed the strong bond in the family.

Velasquez has expressed remorse over the incident. He knows there are things he must move on from to give love to his kids and those around him.

Now free, he can focus on being the father his children need. His story reminds us that even champions face real-life battles, but family love endures.
