Fred Loya Sr died leaving behind his wife.

Fred Loya Sr., founder of Fred Loya Insurance, built not only one of the largest family-owned auto insurance companies in the United States but also a life rooted in family and community.

He and his wife, Maria Loya, shared more than 55 years together, raising their family while dedicating themselves to charitable work in El Paso, Texas.

Maria stood beside Fred as a co-steward of their family’s blessings, supporting youth programs, local baseball teams, and community initiatives.

Together, they helped fundraise, renovate sports fields, provide scoreboards, and sponsor school activities. Their partnership extended beyond business into philanthropy, making them pillars of the El Paso community.

Fred, a U.S. Army veteran, began his insurance agency in 1974 and grew it into the nation’s largest independent auto insurance agency, employing thousands across more than 700 offices.

Maria’s role was equally important, as she worked alongside him to ensure that their success translated into giving back.

When Fred passed away in February 2026, the Loya family released a statement saying he died peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.

His legacy continues through Maria and their children, who remain committed to the values of generosity, family, and community service that defined his life.
