John Robert Simpson died in fire accident.

John Robert Simpson died on February 11 or 12, 2026, after being involved in a grass/backyard fire in Anderson County, South Carolina, U.S.

On the evening of Wednesday, February 11 or 12, 2026, 911 emergency services were called to a grass fire in the backyard on Grantham Road in Piedmont.

The fire had gotten out of control and was burning more than expected.

When firefighters and first responders arrived, they found people, including Simpson, trying to put out the fire. Simpson was suffering from heavy smoke inhalation, meaning he breathed in a large amount of smoke from the fire.

He was treated at the scene and was taken by ambulance to Prisma Health – Greenville Memorial Hospital.

While at the hospital, Simpson’s condition worsened. Doctors and medical staff worked to help him, but he died later that night at the hospital, around 8 p.m.

His death was ruled accidental by the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, and the official cause was listed as exacerbation of asthma due to smoke inhalation, meaning the smoke made his asthma much worse and led to his death.
