The then-18-year-old boy named Kenneth Jones went missing back in 1998 from the Ancrum Court Area in Glenrothes, Fife, and after all these years, his case is still unsolved.
Reportedly, the last time anyone saw him was around 10:30 at night on November 2, 1998, near his family home.
His parents noticed his bedroom was empty the next morning and figured maybe he had gone for a jog or stayed over with friends. However, when he still hadn’t come back by November 4, they reported him missing to the police.
Kenneth was described as a white guy, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, with short dark brown hair. When he was last seen, he had on a black leather zip-up jacket, black jeans, and these yellow and green trainers.
He would be 46 now if he’s still out there somewhere. Over the years, the police did a lot of work on the case, more than a thousand inquiries in total, but nothing turned up with no solid sightings.
There were a few possible sightings early on, like someone hitchhiking or at a pool hall, but they all got ruled out.
Having said that, his family never stopped hoping; they worked with the Missing People charity, put out appeals, and even had an artist’s impression made of what he might look like older.
They did everything in their capability like marking anniversaries, like 20 years, and kept his story in the news when they could.
Recently, things picked up again. In late 2024, the police said they were taking another look at the old files, reviewing everything to see if something got missed back in the 90s.
By 2025, the Major Investigation Team got involved, and they carried out or identified around 1,150 lines of inquiry.
Then just recently, on February 19, 2026, officers from that team showed up at the old family home on Ancrum Court and started searching the place, especially the garden and the back of the property.

Plain-clothed and uniformed cops were there from early morning, going through the area carefully.
Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Pleasance talked about it and said the search is part of their ongoing re-investigation.
They’re using different resources, including expert help, and they’re keeping an open mind about what might have happened.
He asked anyone with even a small bit of information to come forward because the family really needs some answers and closure after so long.
There’s also mention of another disappearance in Glenrothes, Alan Bryant vanished exactly 15 years later to the day, on November 3, 2013, but that’s a separate case, though the families did a joint appeal at one point.
Kenneth’s family has held on to hope for nearly 30 years now, and the police say they’re committed to figuring out what happened to him.
