Seventeen-year-old Caden Nowicki, a senior at Ponder High School in Texas, passed away after a tragic sledding accident during a winter storm.
During the winter storm, Caden was riding in a kayak pulled by an ATV. In an instant, the kayak veered off the road and struck a fence.
He was thrown from the kayak, suffering severe injuries. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and he was airlifted to the hospital.
For three days, he fought for his life in the ICU, but despite every effort, he passed away.
Caden’s death came just days after two teenagers in Frisco, Texas, lost their lives in a similar sledding accident.
What seemed like harmless winter fun has now claimed three young lives in the same state within a short span of time.
Caden was known for his talent on the football field, where he was a standout inside linebacker for the Lions football team, wearing jersey number 44.
He played varsity football for the Ponder Lions, taking on the roles of running back and middle linebacker.
Standing at 5’10” and 215 pounds, he recorded 50 tackles during the 2025–26 season, averaging over six tackles per game, and added two interceptions to his record.
His team finished the season with a 5–4 overall record and 2–4 in district play, placing fourth.
Nationally, Ponder ranked #4515, while in Texas they held the #425 spot.
Caden’s individual stats reflected his impact on the field, with strong defensive performances that earned him recognition among his peers and coaches.
His sudden loss has left his family, friends, and community in deep mourning.
Caden was described as someone whose presence lit up every room. He was a son, a friend, a teammate, and a student whose laughter and energy brought joy to those around him.
His future was wide open, filled with dreams of graduation, college, and more football seasons ahead.
