Owosso Varsity Football and Baseball Player Jace Norton Dies After a Battle With a Severe Infection That Overwhelmed His Young Body

The community mourns the untimely death of 17-year-old Jace Norton, whose battle with a severe infection ended in heartbreaking tragedy.

Known for his compassionate nature, competitive spirit, and unwavering love for his family and girlfriend, Jace leaves behind a legacy of kindness and determination.

Jace’s health struggles began in mid-January when he developed flu-like symptoms.

According to family updates, the initial illness quickly escalated into intense pain at the back of his head.

Visits to local hospitals and pediatrician Dr. Crevecoeur revealed multiple infections, including bacterial meningitis, a sinus infection, and a bloodstream infection.

Despite testing negative for flu and COVID initially, Jace required multiple hospital admissions and rounds of IV antibiotics.

Doctors discovered that the infection originated in Jace’s sinuses and spread to the bones at the back of his head, causing inflammation in the veins leading to his brain.

Jace underwent surgery to remove the fluid and received expert care at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Throughout the ordeal, friends and family marveled at his strength and resilience, while keeping him in their thoughts and prayers.

Tragically, despite the dedicated medical care and community support, Jace passed away.

Friends described him as a “man of God,” an amazing boyfriend to Allison Taphouse, and a devoted family member.

Paul Hrncharik IV, a longtime friend, remembered Jace’s kindness, determination, and love for sports, saying,

“The best part of Jace was the kind of person he was off the court…he was very loving towards his friends and family.”

The loss has left Jace’s family, girlfriend, and friends in profound grief.

Autumn Roshell shared heartfelt prayers for the family, emphasizing the fragility of life and urging the community to support them in this difficult time. She wrote,

“We trust Your promise, Father, that You hold our tears and that nothing escapes Your loving care…Surround them with people who will walk with them, pray for them, and love them well.”
