The community of Barbourville is mourning the loss of Rickey Broughton, who passed away on February 9 at the age of 67
He passed away at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
Rickey was a well-known and loved member of his community, remembered for his kindness, hard work, and dedication to his family.
Barbourville Community Mourns the loss of Rickey Broughton!
Rickey was born on December 16, 1958, to Joe and Mae Broughton. He grew up in Barbourville and lived most of his life surrounded by friends and family.
In 1977, Rickey married Sheila Smith, and together they built a loving home and raised two children, Ryan and Holly.
Rickey and Sheila also ran Knox Florist for about forty years, bringing beauty and joy to many through their floral arrangements.
Outside of his work, Rickey enjoyed simple pleasures such as hunting, fishing, and attending live auctions.
He was a devoted Christian who valued community, family, and friendship. Those who knew him often spoke of his gentle nature, generosity, and readiness to help others.
Rickey is survived by his wife Sheila, his son Ryan and daughter-in-law Erin, his daughter Holly and son-in-law Matt, and his four grandchildren: Caylin, Eden, Hailie, and Sarah.
He is also survived by his sister Joetta Jordan and her husband Harold, along with many other relatives and friends who cherished him deeply.
As the family takes time to mourn their loss, they have offered a public funeral service, which will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home Chapel in Barbourville.
As the Broughton family processes their grief, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and everyone who knew Rickey.
