The community of Roscommon Town is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 14-year-old Emma Biesty, who passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Emma, who lived on The Walk Road, died while under the devoted care of Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. She was in her 15th year at the time of her passing.
Emma was the adored daughter of Tara (née O’Callaghan) and Joe, and a cherished sister to Mark and Amy.
She will be deeply missed by her grandmothers Stephanie and Maureen, her extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins, and her many friends. She is now reunited with her beloved grandfathers, Michael O’Callaghan and Joe Biesty.
Emma was a student at Roscommon Community College, where she was remembered fondly by classmates and teachers.
The school community paid tribute to her kind nature and the lasting impact she had on those around her. A special space was created in her memory, where friends continue to honor her life and spirit.
Outside of school, Emma was actively involved in community activities. Roscommon Gaels GAA Club and local Special Olympics groups expressed deep sadness at her passing, remembering her enthusiasm, warmth, and love for sports.
She was praised for her joyful presence and determination, qualities that left a lasting impression on teammates and coaches alike.
Following her passing, Tributes have continued to pour in, with many describing Emma as a young girl who brought light and positivity wherever she went. Her gentle nature, bright smile, and caring personality touched countless lives.
Funeral arrangements included a repose at Smyth’s Funeral Home, followed by a Mass at the Sacred Heart Church and burial at St. Coman’s Cemetery.
Donations in her memory were directed toward charities supporting children and families, reflecting the compassion that defined her life.
