An 85-year-old Philip Malone, who was reported missing is found dead.

An 85-year-old Philip Malone, who was reported missing from Roswell over the weekend, was found dead inside a submerged car in Lake Lanier on Monday.

His disappearance sparked a search that ended in tragedy when his body was located in his vehicle near Tidwell Park in Forsyth County, Georgia.

Phillip Malone was an 85-year-old resident of Roswell, Georgia, originally from North Carolina, who had been visiting family in the Atlanta area and spending time at Emory Hospital before he was last seen on Saturday.

His family reported him missing the following day when they could not locate him or hear from him.

Roswell police and other law enforcement agencies coordinated search efforts, but no trace was found until the submerged car was discovered on Monday morning.

Authorities with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office received a report Monday morning from a boater who spotted a red Toyota Camry partially submerged near Tidwell Park on Lake Lanier.

Deputies, dive teams, and marine units responded and recovered the vehicle from the water. Inside, they found the body of Phillip Malone, fully clothed and without any obvious signs of trauma.

Sheriff’s officials said the car showed no significant damage and that there was currently no evidence of foul play. Investigators do not yet know how long the vehicle had been in the water or how Malone ended up there.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to perform an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
